We just got back from a wee trip to Venice, and the art was supreme.
The Doge palace has some of the largest most sumpteous canvases.
Accademia Gallery
The Accademia: Venice's greatest art gallery, housing superb collection of Venetian painting spanning over five centuries. It was all very samey after a while - Nearly all venetian and nearly all religeous, but still STUNNING.
This is an AWFUL photo, but this painting is worth the entrance cost alone:

The museum of modern art had great stuff by Matisse, Klimt, and on the stairs it had "the Thinker" by Rodin.

The entrance has 2 Picassos facing each over through a Calder mobile. The cornell boxes were stunning, as was the Pollack collection, the Kandinsky's, Bacon...Moore....
