Passion: What is yours? (Vets and all)

It seems like alot of vetrans say they accept the status of their position, yet universally reflectively have a undertone of "if only I were in charge". So it seems to me that would create alot of stress.

Alot of "jobs" are like this I realize. So I am wondering this is for all really. What is your passion or goals? Other than family or your jobs, what do that you feel strongly about and what to strive for? When you get home from work, other than the tube or joystick. What holds your time? How do you express or grow yourself?

If you had to look back and say "this is what makes me", what would that be?

Not a vet of the game biz, but...

I have never made any moves toward management in 14 years, because I can't see myself doing anything but 'making stuff'. Were I not making stuff, I could not do the job. Someday I may be in charge of other people making stuff, but it will have to be making stuff that I really care about. So far I haven't found myself in that environment.

I love bringing my (delusional) visions to life in 2D and 3D. I rarely achieve more than 50% satisfaction with this, but when it comes, in whatever quantity, it is sweet and fulfilling.

Games, of course. But I'm also big on building/painting models, as well as fudging with electronics. I've modded my PC mice, for example, and I'm currently working on my Xbox and PS2. It's just relaxing to fiddle around with stuff.

    Guitars, and oil painting!
Also a little on Vassago's side with the electronics faffery... I recently installed a whole new pickup arrangement into a Les Paul I have here, and it worked first time ... I was pleasantly surprised!

Well gaming. That's the #1 on my list and has been since I can remember and I'm sure it will ALWAYS be there.

Things that also really interest me (and I could see being a main passion) are reading, creating music, decorating, and building furniture..

    Lots of fun!

When all is said and done, no matter the amount of games I've played, or drawings I've created, writing is the one thing I can immerse myself into utterly and just have fun.
Modelling and drawing's cool too, and I'm happy (and astonished) I've developed a talent with it, but I'll always love writing.

Odd this comes up now, as I have to look for a new job. Which means figuring out what the hell I want to do. I'd still really like to do layout, but it may not be likely around here. Which brings me to my next point: my godson. I moved out here to be by him, and now I couldn't imagine it any other way. Watching him grow up is one of the best experiences, not to mention it cures any desire I might have to birth my own little nightmares.

Not counting the boob tube or playing games? Doing drawing studies with traditional media, and once I'm done trudging through the death throes of my senior term in college and get a job, I'll be getting back a bit into guitar and reading, I look forward to it because I haven't touched on those interests in years and my taste in them has drastically changed. I also enjoy the fine sport of paintballing, bike riding (some day it shall be a motorcycle!!!), and swimming. I also really enjoyed playing Soccer (the real name being football) but I just don't know how I will get back into that without people to play with, maybe I'll buy a new ball and learn to juggle it?

Noticing the little Ultraman sprite in your avatar gave that away.

Personally, I have a unique situation. I work from home, coding AutoCAD apps. I set out goals on a daily basis, and when I complete them, I either move on to some of the next days goals, or....work on game stuff/play games.

I try to make a difference. As such I volunteer, try to think grassroots, and live to the best of my ability greenish.

I also must create to feel fullfilled. But creating something that says something versus a pretty object.

My eventual goal is to combine these to help inspire others.

    Flipino Martial Arts. http://www.leskas.com/

I've done martial arts for the last 14 years, and Filipino styles for the last 12. It's just a beautiful form of expression and growth. And it's fun hitting people with sticks!

I like creating pretty objects! Beyond that, I like a wide variety of foods and drinks, I highly enjoy travelling when I can, watching lots of movies, and spending time with the wife and kids. But I'd be lying if I didn't say I loved making pretty objects the most. And oXY- even pretty objects say something- sometimes little more than, "aren't I pretty? Look at me for a while and take pleasure in my beauty. There, isn't that nice? You're feeling better already." And sometimes this alone helps inspire others.

And then there are those guilty pleasures most of us keep to ourselves. Ror must have had some good booze going thru his viens when he posted that =P

As for me I like art. Almost as broad as Hawkins "japan" preply but really I like anything creative. If my wife is making holiday cards I normally jump in and design them for her. I don't watch much TV unless I am playing a console game or watching a movie. If I do watch TV its the history chanel.

Really when it comes down to what my passion is, its art. Looking at it, making it, helping with ideas to make it. Giving feedback about how to make it better, I just freakin love art.

I like seeing myself in art ... I mean, when I see a final product that's been concepted, modeled, textured, and animated by three or four different people, I like to be able to see my own sense of humor or style shining through the composite. Sometimes it's glaring (e.g. goldfish masturbating his pet tuna) and sometimes it's tiny (a look, a gesture, or a twitch), but it's always sweet. I like picking other people out of our finished work too. Maybe it's something to do with the beauty of retention of individuality during cooperative toil. Dunno. Neat. Blah.
