Friend of mine is buying a Wacom Cintiq. He's an illustrator who works from home. I'm curious to use it as I'd like to try modelling with it. Looks pretty kickass - I especially like how the surface of the monitor has a paper-like texture to it.

Anyone here use/own one? I'd like to here your experience(s) with one.

i don't like it because it only goes up to 1024 x 768 and only has 512 levels of pressure. I want one, but not until they up those specs.

concept guy here at mythic has one of the older ones, he likes . i also beleive he's already preordered one of the new ones for his own use

Normally I like drawing in real life better than the computer save for 2 reasons:

-no undo in RL

-hand obscures what I'm drawing in real life

i never look at my tablet when i paint. I cant imagine an advantage to having my hand obscure what im looking at anyways. So this would be a waste for me.

Pak: you'd think so, but in practice the experience is a little different. i've got a tablet PC that allows you to draw on the screen in much the same way as a Cintiq... and though there is the hand blocking part of what you're drawing issue, i think it makes up for it with having that much more precision. though i know anyone who uses a wacom tablet doesn't feel that it's all that unnatural, but once you draw right on the screen it feels 5x better. i'd consider getting one of the new Cintiqs if it weren't for the price and already having a new Intuos 3 at home.
