It'll be so cool to use all of xsi's sweet features (mixer, gpuFX etc) without the worry of messing about with fbx transfers or having mayaPLE installed.
It'd be even cooler if actorXsi (it was destined to be) or Ued4 would support cg shaders prototyped in xsi.

whats up with everyone turning over to XSI.

I don't know that they are really, it's just getting a lot of hype lately with HL2, modtool etc plus the fact you can own a legal commercial version that's pretty much intact for 300 quid probably isn't hurting them either..( ok, no compositor , rbd's, behaviour or hair, but you won't be needing them for most realtime stuff I'd have thought..)

is it as "good but complicated" as people say?

I wouldn't say it's that much more complicated than any "big" app that I've seen. Rendertree looks a bit scary when you start out but it's easy enough to get the basics I thought.
It's certainly not as scary as something like Houdini in my opinion.
I dunno, it's all down to personal taste I suppose, grab the demo and see how you find it.
