Im going to be heading out to the art musem in philadelphia soon and I wanted to get your opinions on how to make the most of my time. You dont have to've been to Phillys art museum either, just in general. I mean like what sections would be beneficial to the game artist to see. Are you allowed to bring cameras in all sections. What should I avoid? ect.

Pick your favorite era/school of art, and see that first. Save the stuff you're not fond of for last. For instance, a lot of the classical masters that do good characters and portraits are the one that I generally hit first. I'm fresh, charged up, and inspired, and can really appreciate this, as it's my favorite stuff. I save the impressionists and modernist sculptures for last, as I'm generally not a big fan, and after 3 hours of museum, I'm usually at sensory overload, and won't really appreciate anything that I see at this point. In fact, if the museum is really big, I often skip these sections.

I think they usually don't allow cameras at all, or at least definitely not flash photography.

Yeah,id agree with ndcv alot of art galleries don't allow camaras, normally it comes down to good ol' fashions pencil/pen and paper.

As for you Daz,well, yes id say an art gallery would be the logical place to find an arty chick....good luck to you sir! smile.gif.

OK, well you're a game artist. So really what you are is a traditionalist. You like to make things based on real life.

Personally, I'd look for paintings made by Winslow Homer or John Singer Sargent and anything from the Renaissance.

And then I'd look for an artsy chick......or maybe 1st...I don't know.

Sketch book is a must-have for me. Some museums are cool with those micro watercolor kits, if you're into color studies.

You can often sneak a camera in, just turn off the flash. I brought a stereoscopic camera into the Borghese Gallery in Rome once, got some great shots of Bernini's sculptures before the guard caught me. No one caught me in the Vatican though, the Belvedere torso and the Laocoon were amazing. 3D pics are so cool!

I'd say go with your eyes and just look at the artwork. Enjoy it.

A few years ago I was in Paris and we went to the Mus

reading all the cam stuff and the forbid of it makes me think the musuems should offer the whole exposed stuff digitalized and make even some money with that.
cuz that way u can relax and observe and sneak after the artsy chicks and buy a cd when u leave the musuem... now would that be good or not.

Many museums have a book with photographs of their collection (or at least their best pieces). poly133.gif
