SF Bay Area Polycounters - GDC get-together

I thought I'd post a new topic just because I tend to ignore stickies after they've been around a bit. The current plan is to meet at the 4th street entrance to the Moscone Center West at 6:30pm on Thursday the 10th. From there we'll go grab some food and drinks somewhere. Hopefully a local can help us with a location

Well that was fun! doc_rob, Jeffro, Scott, Thegodzero, Dabu, killingpeople, JDinges ( its still so much easier to remember folks by nicknames! ) and anybody else I met, great to meet you guys in person. I'm glad I was driving, since it coulda got pretty messy otherwise. Poop after a couple of glasses of wine? I'm not sure I was ready for that. Look forward to the next time ;-p

Even though I was late I got the meet up with Poop, Doc Rob, God Zero, Daz, and briefly met killing on the way out. I was bummed I missed Scott, but there wasn't much I could do. Just wanted to say thanks to Daz and Poop for letting us tag along, it was loads of fun.

Yeah, I had to duck out early. I had another engagement with some other people up in russian hill. Was nice to meet up with scott, jdinges, daz, killing, bree (the quiet one) and the rest. I just couldn't wait all night for poop to come back downstairs...

Sorry about bailing early, but it looked like we wold never get a seat, and I needed food, and had to catch a train. The train part worked as I could drink freely and not worry about the DUI :-). The little Thai Fast food place had decent Curried Chicken too.

I had my cammera on m the whole time, but didnt tak a single picture. There was never a time when we were all together so i never got the opertunity to take a good shot. Anyway, it was great to meet doc_rob, Daz, poop, killing, scott, dave king, and everyone else. I should have gone with you guys to the Maxis party, the sony party was shity, and i almost lost my voice because of it.

The Maxis party was OK. A bit of a sausage fest, but hey, this is game dev. Besides, I'm sure Poop picked up a few more business cards for his gargantuan collection. There's about 20 still in my front room that were clearly discarded for not being of serious worth hahaha!. Poop, how much is it worth for me to not photograph and post pictures of the business cards that you considered to be not worth keeping? ;-p

Yeah, it was cool to meet some more polycounters, it's definitely a friendly bunch of people that hang out here.

I'm going to try and write up some thoughts on what I saw at the show. There was nothing too directly applicable like the Bay Raitt membrane modeling thing last year, but some good nuggets of advice.

Yeah, I have to agree. The Bay Raitt thing and the Tim Schaffer was excellent from last year. I did see a few good Maya specific classes though.

Learned some nice things in those shows. For example Move and Sew has options. I go to an Alias sponsored class every year with the same guy from teaching and manage to learn 1 small thing that I have never seem before in the program. That was it for this year.

I'm going to get all my notes sorted together and type them up pretty over the next week and put them up.

I forgot to mention that I was one of the 1000 that got a free 23 inch LCD HD tv at the Microsoft press conf. That's the best swag I've ever gotten at GDC.

I have to say dave has to be one of the most happy artists i have met, other than ben, but as we all know your on crack so you dont count.

I'm a litle anoyed that we were not all able to sit down as one group. Then again 20+ people is a few too many for one table.

On my flight back i was talking to this chick that i went to HS with. She's a programmer and got offered a job at the EA party by one of the programing leads, so it must have been pretty good.
