Hi,

I have just installed Photoshop CS, and for some reason I am unable to save my files as jpg, bmp etc. I can only save files as Photoshop, Photoshop PDF, Photoshop RAW, PNG, TIFF, and Cineon. What is wrong with my Photoshop?

Thanks if you can help, and if not thanks for taking the time to read my thread.

Are you sure you haven't got stuff in your document not supported by the jpg format?!

ok i worked out what the problem is. Anyway, it seems that when i set the page to RGB/16 bit it will only allow me to save in the above formats I have already mentioned. However, if i change it to RBG/8 bit, then i am able to save in all the other formats. could someone now explain whats the difference between the two? thanks.

You know that that's the mode ( image bit depth ) of the actual image you're manipulating right? And not a general Photoshop display mode?

the 16 bit image is a new feature of photoshop cs, it did not exist in 7, 8bit is usually what you want to use, .jpg probably does not support 16bit images and thus you can't save to that format with such a high bit depth. I think a 16bit image is a high dynamic range image perhaps? I could be wrong but I think it allows you to view hdr images without clamping the values in the new photoshop, I guess you could save them too? I have not tried this yet though as I don't really work with any hdri junk.
