damn february sure is turning out to be a really shitty month as far as people dying goes, first hunter s thompson and now truly one of the greatest artists of our time.
Thompson, while i greatly admire Fear and Loathing, was a man who you knew would not live his natural life span, one way or another. i thought the drugs would get to him, and maybe they did, indirectly--it probably just had more to do with his despairing view of this country/humanity in general. unfortunate to say the least.
Zdzislaw Beksinski on the other hand is harder to take--a 75 year old celebrated artist, violently murdered? that's just wrong. Beksinski's work still stands as some of the most imaginative of its kind. though a lot of the form language and visual currency of his work hedges very closely Giger, his landscapes are some of the very few pieces that evoke a sense of awe in me. thanks for the news as regrettable as it is, Jason.
