Hey there, I'm looking for a few crits to a selfportrait I painted today. I used photo reference, with a few traced lines to get the rough shapes right without too much trouble. Here you go:
2 hours?!?!?!
that must have been a fucking time travel.
the color between bright and ark is low saturated and bright and dark strongly saturated
it must be the other way around.
Thanks for the comments!
Time travel? Too fast or too slow? *scratches head*
Here's the reference photo, the high saturation in the midtones is in there too: original photo
And here's an update... cleaned up the brushstrokes and did some final tinting and tweaking:
well it looks like a successful study, nice work. try one with a mirror in grayscale. start with 4 shades first and then work your way up, it's good fun.
Vig: why hold out though?
I'm sure if you click the link that says "original photo", nothing TOO bad will happen.
Qube: your explanation is somewhat, err, lacking?
At least it made no sense to me, so i'm linking to Prom's tutorial, which covers this quite well: http://www.itchstudios.com/psg/art_tut.htm
Overall, i think all of the skintones are too warm/orangey, but it's hard to tell against the background.
