I know i rave on and on about Stargate sg-1 and Atlantis and i'm sorry i love show so much but damn, this new Battlestar series is actually pretty cool. At first it turned me off but after a while after you absorb the content, story, and feel, it begins to grow on you. Pretty bad ass show and i like the use of technology that almsot resembles mondern day if not older technology. I'm sure many of you love this show. But if it continues the way it is heading, chances are its going to over come my taste for stargate.

I only got to see the pilot movie before I moved up here, and it was very very good. I wasn't expecting much and I was happy to be so impressed.

yeah its really the only sci-fi show that was able to bring a tear to my eye. Its that involving and highly recomended.

I stopped watching after the mini-series, and their decision to show all of Season 1 over in Europe before showing it to the US audience... Season 2 I believe is about to start airing over there already..

David Gerrold (the guy who wrote the Tribbles episode of StarTrek) was asked once to write up a new SciFi series that would use stock footage from the original Battlestar Galactica . he thought it wasn't a good idea to use the stock footage so he created a new ship for the series so that the FX people would have to build a new ship for new shots and then those shots would make the stock footage look bad so then the FX people would have to create all new ships to use. the show fell through for one reason or another that i can't remember right now so Gerrold decided not to let all his work go to waste and wrote several novels based on the series called Tales of the StarWolf (Voyage of the StarWolf, The Middle of Nowhere, and Blood and Fire the premise of which was originally written for StarTrek the Next Generation but the studio was too scared to use because a couple of characters were gay (how frightening for a show that was supposed to be so big on diversity! ). they're quite good reads.

anyway i thought that the new Battlestar mini-series was one of the best shows i've ever seen and quite a bit better than most movies i've seen. i wanted to watch the new series but i missed the first episode and its snowballed into me not seeing any of the series.

Seen the whole first season (praying there will be a second)... quite simply the best sci-fi I`ve ever seen, though not particularly `sci-fi-y`, and I`m not a big sci-fi fan. Gets really grim late in the season. Awesome.

Haven't watched the new show much. Wife likes it. But it's no "Galactica 1980".

Because Sci-Fi bought SG1 from Showtime. SG1 was slotted into the Friday schedule in FarScape's 9pm slot, pushing FarScape to 10pm. That caused viewership for FarScape to drop a bit. Additionally, FarScape's budget continued to rise as they added more exotic effects, while SG1 remained cheap, since it is largely filmed on contemporary sets and alien worlds that look surprisingly like northern California. The profit margins on FarScape continued to drop, despite a still solid viewerbase, so Sci-Fi decided to cancel the show and then replace it with a SG spinoff. This is one reason that some FarScape fans do not like the Stargate series, and a few go so far to say that Sci-Fi is putting Claudia Black and Ben Browder in SG1 season 9 just to shut the FarScape fans up.

On that note, I'd say don't get too attached to Battlestar Galactica. It has the same production constraints that FarScape does, and I don't think it's any likelier to last more than four seasons. All the excitement and goodwill you hear now is little different than what FarScape had in its day; the show was so popular through the third season that Sci-Fi gave them a two-year extension for fourth and fifth seasons then, only to pull the carpet out from under them a year later.

yeah Major, you nailed it perfectly. They love to do anything to not make money. Yeah, thats it. Right on chap. You should consider the fact that they go off house hold ratings and viewer counts. Statgate( both shows) rake in millions. So does Battlestar, but its too new for the it to be bumped up to a earlier time to accomidate more viewrs. They want to see how it does first. Personal, I love Stargate, as everyone knows, but Battlestar has a huge bit of potential to over come the series and beat it out. But it's going to be a close call.

GG, Tubboy. We're all just getting along fine in this thread when, out of the blue, you suddenly feel the need to be an ass. Major Clod is right on - good shows, even ones with decent viewership, get cancelled all the time if production costs eat too much of the advertising and expected syndication profits. If you want to take issue with that, you can do it without being a smartass ("right on, chap!").

Your seemingly random need to do this makes it pretty obvious why so many people here shit on you in any thread you post in. Why is it you haven't figured this out yet?
