Got motivated to do some modeling last night/early this morning when i saw this: I'm about 5-6 hours into it so far and its my first real attempt at doing cloth folds.
[Edit] Seems like 4chan dosent like external links, updated with ref
Wow- looking really nice. Only thing I see that bugs me is the fold/bulge that the straps are making on her thigh- way too extreme, and not in the photo. Minor nitpick though- really great work so far.
Careful with the arms. They're looking too skinny from the front view. Also... the arms shouldn't bend inwards. I know they are in the ref image, but that's because she has her arms rotated backwards and twisted inwards a bit.
Personal Opinion:
I wouldn't go with her body type. I'd go ahead and create something abit more "ideal" and "stylized" There's something about the outfit that makes her lower half seem like it's too small for her upper body.
I think it's the fishnet 'tunic' and gunbelt across the hips rather than around the waist. The tied off lower pant leg on her left is just stupid and completely impractical...I remember it bugged the crap out of me while watching the movie (which in itself bugged the crap out of me for being crappy)
Yeah great start EQ and a nice subject! Along with the stuff that's just been said, I just wanted to remind you to go easy on commiting to detailing this too much before you're absolutely certain of basic shape and proportions. Theres some density in those pants there thats gonna start getting hard to manipulate soon. Still, there's always a lattice Looking forward to seeing more.
Well, Im not sure If EQ has made a serious stab at the face or not. But If he has then yeah, the plane of the nose that faces forward is too narrow. It's fairly wide in Milla.
I've done a little bit of work on the face, not a lot my main problem is trying to differentiate specific details from her and the old head. They look very similar to me when i have the tweaked head loaded up over the reference im using. So if anyone has any suggestions for increasing the likeness please do feel free to post and let me know. Im going to do some more tweaks(make eyeballs smaller and reform the face to them, and widen the bridge of her nose a little bit) and then ill post some more shots and the specific reference image im using.
Cool man, looking much better. I'd be careful of using that front ortho too much. Although I guess it's fine for basic proportions. Shes very young there so theres a lot of puppy fat. It's also ever so slightly looking down and the lighting is a bit flat to tell you anything about her bonestructure.
Features that I think are VERY distinctive in her:
Are you sure you cant find a decent front and side? I'd recommend getting out a DVD, and grabbing a 360 of her head turn. It's a fantastically useful method of reference.
Great model! Loved those movies
Head is coming along great but there are still some things not quite right yet I think.
Looking at her profile she should have a bigger chin. Also the part of her profile where her eyebrows are should stick out a little bit.
Here some pics I grabbed quickly of the dvd...
that is looking really nice, adn you're getting a pretty good likeness too. it think her cheeks should be more sunken in though. also i think her eyes arent quite the right shape. fix up her profile with those refs from Ikraan adn she'll be prefect.
Milla has very masculine face: low hairline, rough forehead and rather powerful looking jaw. Without makeup and different hair she would be quite belivable guy :P
Anyways you should rework her forehead, cheeks and chin like Ikraan pointe out, just use the side refs he posted and you should be ok
Ok thanks for the tips guys heres another wip shot. It seems like the more work i put into her the uglier she gets, i guess thats just her facial structure though.... I think i liked the younger version better even if it didnt look anything like her. I feel like im doing something wrong still either way i go, if i stay with this version or try and smooth it out to make her look younger, i guess ill work on something else and think about it a little bit.
Ok cool well no need to panic just yet The words 'masculine face' aren't really gonna help you here though. You've gone too hard. She's a bit, well, lumpy now. You have the basics, you need to sort of relax the cage. I would simplify the facialy topology quite a bit to smooth things out now. Your previous iteration was actually better I think.
WOW...such effort is most visible, and to be honest it looks soooooooo like her, and the rest of her is just fantastic you've absolutely nailed it with the torso IMHO...I think you owe to yourself to texture and weight her...this is looking spot on....good stuff Earthquake!!
Ahh, good tweaks there. I hadn't actually noticed the butch-ness too much before, but now you've fixed it, it's way better. Her hands look a little too big to me?
Turning out really nicely though, and you're totally speedin' on her... keep it up!
looking real nice man, glad you got rid of the leg thingy. It looks kinda cool in a character design sense, but when I see stuff like that I cant help but wonder about what the actual point of it is.
pretty good mate
honestly I really prefer the wiewport snapshot than the GI render, I think a simple 3 points and depth map shadows would do better and give this model more justice.

nice ass btw

It's a really solid start

Updated head to look more like her

and heres a body shot, the SMG is just a place holder and the clips are all i have done on the high poly m1911 so far
Features that I think are VERY distinctive in her:
1) Striking eyes:

2) eyebrows that angle upward
3) The bridge of the nose is quite unique. It's similiar to the deal Rachel Weiss has going on.
4) The quite apparent infraorbital brow. ( the indented diagonal from eye corner down cheek ) http://www2.filmweb.no/multimedia/archive/00031/Milla_Jovovich_Wallp_31157i.jpg
5) She actually has bags under her eyes too:

6) Fatty upper eyelids. i.e you dont always see an upper lid crease. Quite common in a lot of women from Eastern Europe:

MILLLLAAAAA!!!!
Etienne
What i mean is that some stuff you cant see from pictures but you can feel it.
Ok got to doing her hands today:
now i gotta get some damned sleep =D
Turning out really nicely though, and you're totally speedin' on her... keep it up!
Lies, i havent been on my ADD meds for like half a year crash.
and a test render with GI(no AA and low quality settings = grainy)
honestly I really prefer the wiewport snapshot than the GI render, I think a simple 3 points and depth map shadows would do better and give this model more justice.
anyway, good work Keep it up !!
[edit]slightly newer pic
The outer eye corners feel like they're being pulled up?
