OK kids, here's the dish:
After r13 was gracious enough to drop some bills on a dedicated server, I have gotten around to getting things set up on it and it has been running for the past couple weeks flawlessly (well, except for when I muck it up.
) Right now, it just has Counter Strike: Source or Half-Life 2: Deathmatch running. I wanted to make sure it was going to be at least semi-stable before I went crazy installing things and annoucing it. the address is going to be nibbler.fastpc.com. All servers WILL be password protected to limit the amount of TK'ers and general douche-bags. r13 threatened me with terrible things if I didn't get a UT2k4 server running, I kinda want to get a DC server running and maybe a Neverwinter Nights server.
Keep your eyes peeled as I will try to update you guys as much as possible.

P.S.: What is the approximate location of the server? USA Eastcoast?
If you install Soldier of Fortune 2 you'll be able to compare it to Counter Strike, and realize how deprived u r.
The server lives in Ohio, USA.
As far as what does and does not go on the server, and I do not mean this in a hateful way, will pretty much be up to r13 and I. Suggestions are fine, but please don't get angry if you don't see it up there. I am still not sure just how much this machine can actually take, so it's going to be done a bit at a time.

The url will be nibbler.fastpc.com:7777 and the password will be polycount. It's just running vanilla ut2k4 for now until I see how it handles it although I don't think there will be too much trouble.

As I was in sort of a groove Sunday night since I was on vacation and could sit with out the timelimits of needing sleep before work, I got the bf1942 server up and running as well with desert_combat on it. I think everything on there is up to date.
the info for the server is the same still nibbler.fastpc.com but the port is 14567 enjoy and if anything goes hay-wire, let me know at tshockeyATgmailDOTcom I will be leaving for San Francisco Tues morning and won't be back til friday, so I won't be able to fix anything that goes wrong til then. and just as a final reminder:

But it is not really fun playing on the server for me, since I get a ping around 200 (I usually get a ping below 20 on servers in Germany). I could live with 100, but 200 is really a bit too laggy to play

i definitely have the most recent steam update, but it seems my version isnt compatible with the polycount CS version

I just installed UT2K4 and updated with the patch. How do I go about joining the PC server? I've never done this before.
