Where to register my web address?

For those out there who have registered web addresses, where did you get yours? Used to be there was just one place, but now a lot of the services out there look like boiler room operations. Currently, Verizon is my ISP and they don't seem to have much on the ball with this. I'm still looking, but can I get some recommendations?

any other domains I purchase at godaddy.com, and direct them to one of my unlimited subdomains.

I'm a real noob when it comes to this stuff. I recently switched hosts, and found to my pleasure that Net Wizards had a very fast turnaround in updating my DNS addresses. It's nice too to be able to sign up for several years at once. And they send a nice reminder by snail mail when the domain is about to expire.
