work on this was completed a lil while ago for the joust3d project (
http://www.joust3d.com). the kickass model was done by Warghoul, and it was based on a concept by the amazingly talented andrew jones.
many years ago, the heron character was a magnificent, royal riding beast. Disowned from its master, it has become corrupted and rotten by the evil of its new superior, eventually turning into an undead heron
thats the character me and cody kind of tried to put together off jones' concept

I also love the blanket. Such great details man. You are my hero!
so damn awesome. i kinda agree about the featehrs, but considering the amount of detail it would take to change that i dont think its a problem, unless maybe you just made the really long ones more feathery...
whatever it looks amazing, haha, i cant stop looking at it
The eye is especially rad!
Nice detials as well, especially the back/seating area.
haha fucking awesome.
horosho nigga.
No C&C from me.
Very well modeled and textured, i love it. I really dig the colors and nice shapes. The lighting isnt bad, but i guess to defined. There i must say it would be better to rely on the engine.
The metal work indeed is great, very mysterious feel.
And please, dont compress that flat too mucch it looks incredibly ugly on bright monitors (like those we have here in school )
Very good work.
I can't stop looking at that skin...so much detail and interesting bits.
The metalwork is awesome too.
I will agree that the feathers look ... not quite like the stuff feathers are made out of, but it's a cool style anyway and I think it works in this case.
MoP
great job all around... no crits from me.
/me bows
This one was already an awesome piece right from the start
What I like the most is the 'overall' shading, aka the way everything seems to be lit in a very natural way. I guess that you make a final shading pass when everything is rendered out? Maybe even using a lightning bake as an overlay? It's looking real nice anyways
Are you planning a playable demo release anytime soon? I just can't wait to JOUST!!
obviously you're right about the feathers,
ive kind of rushed it out there and wanted to get done with it
as fun as painting feathers at 1024 is.... u know..
the joust project has indeed come to a slowdown, with many of the team members becoming too busy with work. i myself am not actively contributing for now, as im in shcool.
to adress some specific questions and comments,
pior: i just render it quite simply really as i go, no special tricks im afraid. being as techniqually crippled as i am, i wouldnt even know how to make a lightning bake. can u do it in a microwave?
Renaud Galand: thank you. little chance honest, but there's very little to see really, its pretty much direct painting over a base texture, thats it. u just have to figuer out your palette, thats all.
joolz8000: lol!
pepsi: im not sure how long it took, i spent like couple of hours a week for a while until my departure set a deadline and then i got crank'n for a couple of weeks or so
took my time thats fore sure..
but hey u know me
being as techniqually crippled as i am, i wouldnt even know how to make a lightning bake. can u do it in a microwave?

Great work shotgun!
The rug across the saddle is really spectacular. I'd also like to know how much is photo texture overlays, and how much is just good old fashioned painted grit.
Send me the layered PSD!
Awesome job Shotgun! Awesome. I nearly needed a drool cloth as I stared at it. What eyecandy. Love the whole design.
The bones and feathers, the ribs, armour and wooble legs.
I wanted a pony for Christmas, now I want this creature!
Thanks for sharing!
