This is some crazy stuff - tha Alrosa Villa is just a few miles from my old home (parents still live there, etc). It's probably the best pure rock/metal joint in the state It's just so hard to believe - no one gets gunned down like that in Columbus, and certainly not a legend like Darrell. Just unbelievable.
Oh no. This can't be true. I was just listening to Cowboys from Hell the other day. I've listened to it for years, and learned to play most of the songs. He was an awesome guitarist. It was a moment to remember watching him perform live years ago while still with Pantera.
This is a tragic loss in the world of metal. Why did it have to happen on my Bday?
RIP Dime
"grind that axe for a long time", you were an inspiration
My brother told me about this this morning. Very tragic. Pantera was one of my favorite bands when I was a teenager. One of the first CD's I ever bought was Vulgar Display of Power (already had Cowboys From Hell on tape). He'll be missed.
Why the fuck would somebody shoot them?!?!?! Just fucking ridiculous.
Apparantly, the shooter uttered some things about Pantera before gunning them down...
I've heard rumour that he said they fucked up Pantera or something retarded like that.
Either way, i think it's firmly established the guy was a nutjob, as much as it's established that Dimebag was awesome.

Dimebag's dead?! Fucking hell... a terrible loss to metal and guitaristry in general.
Bastards. This is why I am for tougher gun control worldwide!

Worldwide? We don't allow guns here in Europe. Atleast we don't allow them as much as in the states. I've always find it strange that about everybody can get himself a firearm, in the US. RIP
Pea, that's more or less what I figured it would be about - it sounded like the shooter went straight for Dimebag Darrell and then turned on Vinne Paul. The background for this is apparent, as there was an awful lot of shit-slinging between the Abbotts and Phil Anselmo when Pantera broke up. As far as I've heard, the blame generally falls on Anselmo for being a selfish asshole, but I suppose fans of his might see it the other way and hold it against Dimebag and Vinne Paul.
I sort of 'got out' of metal a few years ago, selling off a lot of old albums including my Pantera collection - Reinventing the Steel was rather disappointing and it seemed they were over at that point anyway. Still, many fond memories. I can't see Dimebag Darrell's name in print and not immediately hear that fucking insane riff from 'Becoming', one of the best metal guitar tracks ever put down - the kind of music that makes you want to punch someone's grandma in the mouth (all of FBD is awesome). He was a great talent that too many people never heard about or never really appreciated.
I read this on another board...very sad. I spent half the night trying to go through all the conflicting articles, but they pretty much all said Dimebag died. I do wonder how many people will point at Phil now.
I really hope they release some sort of Dime solo album thing - he has to have recorded EEOONNs of stuff, really hope some of that stuff (if there actually is any) comes to surface.
And Dave Mustaine is hosting a 90 minute retro piece on Dimebag tonight at 10:30pm on MTV.
*edit*
Well, the above info is what Mustaine posted on the Megadeth forums, but I think SR's info is mroe accurate. 10pm-Midnight on Saturday. Shitty thing is that it's on MTV2, which I don't get. I guess Dimebag's death wasn't important enough to pre-empt a pair of Pimp My Ride and Punk'd reruns. I really hate the current generation of MTV
I heard Vinnie got hit as well and then I heard he was dead. I was glad to find out he was OK, I'm still in shock about Dime...it just doesn't seem real. I actually played the alrosa villa in 95 with a Kiss tribute band called Strutter. My friends and I lived thru Pantera in the 90's. We are all upset...I guess the only concilation is that Dime didn't feel a thing.
RIP Dime..............................

I wasn't the biggest fan, but I can recognize their talent.

Though a friend told me someone shot and killed Dimebag, on stage no less. It just plain sucks ass!

the harder it hurts for me. Dime was my hero as a teen.
The man was dedicated.
I can't imagine the pain Vinnie and the Abbott family are experiencing right now.
At least he died on stage, with his guitar in his hand doing what he loved to do.
