This is my entry for the cgchat comp currently going on. Im pretty much done with the lowpoly stuff, Im gonna try to optimize a bit more so I can get the umbrella in there. Im actually gonna attempt a normal map, but if it looks like shyt, Ill go old school. Hope you like!

yeah, this is refreshingly fun and well designed out--i love the execution of the beetle and the drinking straws are a very nice touch.

Glad you guys like! This project is seriously fun to work on. I got the u.v's all laid out today so Im gonna start textureing. Im gonna try for a sort of hyper-real style with mixes of cartoony and elements of realism thrown in. They are also mapped so they can be normal mapped (no mirroring or sharing u.v's for those who dont know) so Im gonna try Max 7's normal mapping pipline, along with turbo smooth and the paint sculpt tool.

Great work, very cool stuff, my only comment about the concept would be give the fly guy a chef's hat and apron, rather than just a wifebeater and whitie tighties.

I think the 'poo model' needs to twist a little more in the last 'loop' if you get my meaning.
The fly guy should also carry a poop scoop to dish out the goods.

Sup! sorry It's been so long since an update, My computer at home couldent handle the normal maps, so I had to do all that stuff at work after hours.
so currently the normal mapped stuff is about done. Im open to any tweaks or suggestions you may have, though right now Im focusing on the rest of the stuff which is not normal mapped. ( the fly skin, cart and rest of the beetle.)

The beetle is based of Ontius alexis. It's a cool looking dung beetle. See I learned something! haha.

comming along good, i especially like that texture on the green part of the bug.

One thing that hurts my eyes is that purple color, it goes ugly against the background and against that green part.

Damn i hope you understand what i'm saying. Keep up the good work.

yeah, the purple is just a base, It will end up darker with warmer tones in the highlights. Kind of like in the concept.

Hah sweet man. Gotta love the 'spatter' Maybe have some splashed up against the back of the beetle. Is there a bump map on him right now or something?
