Ok well meet walter ... this is my 2nd attempt at organic modelling ..
ok i am having some troubles uvmapping him though .. i've brocken it down in parts and mapping one section at a time and then will weld it all together .. i am using a checkered map but it is proving difficult spreading the mesh properly to avoid any kind of stretching ..
any kind of tutorials you can link me to ? or your own techniques ?

http://www.bobotheseal.com/temp/other/head_example.jpg this helped me out quite a bit and seems to be a pretty standard way of unwrapping head
for the lips i think it would look fine if you (its kinda hard to explain) move the lines of vertices more evenly acros the mouth/jaw so it'll look more rounded.
