Although somewhat buggy, my Winamp5 completely replaced Windows Media Player. I was hoping for atleast one more update to cure some of the errors that appear. It could play so many video formats, even some windows formats that even WMP has trouble playing. Sad to see it go.
You know, I'm really sad that this is happening. I've used Winamp for aslong as I was able to get onto the internet and its a shame AOL is axing this program. I'm with KDR on this one, the assholes.
I'll miss Nullsoft and all, but Winamp is pretty much perfect for me in its current incarnation (5.05). Can't really think of any bugs that are bothering me or features that are missing.
5.05 in classic skin mode is light on resources and does everything I need it to do. Global Hotkeys, Jump to File Extended, and the media library all rule. A few other plugs round it out nicely (a compressor, a dsp stacker, and stuff for shoutcast/icecast broadcasting, & the enhancer dsp).
This is one of my favorite pieces of software. It's graphicly engaging, simplistic, user friendly, stable and a light-weight program... I don't think there's any other program (other than windows) that I have used longer. If my computer's on, there's a 99% chance Winamp is running on it... it's been that way since 1998.
Hehehe... Just remembered downloading NIN mp3s for it off of www.nineinchnails.net on my 28.8. (illegal mp3s out in the open without any legal notices or any attempt to obscure what it was... and it stayed up for quite a while... unimaginable these days.)
Well, at least the versions 5 and 2.91 are solid programs and leave little reason to go with another music program. I just hope as new audio formats are released, the winamp plugins to support them will be released with them.
yeah, i've stayed with winamp 2 since being introduced to the program and though i'm sad for the guys who worked on winamp, the news doesn't really change my pirated-music-listening habits
