I’m a designer at a prop fabrication shop here in Burbank, and I’m reaching out to this community specifically because we’re looking for a very particular kind of unicorn.
We’ve posted on the usual IATSE union boards and haven't found the right fit yet. The reason I’m posting here is that we don't just need a 3D modeler; we need a fabricator
who happens to use digital tools. We need someone who understands that a model isn't finished until it’s been keyed, toleranced for assembly, and optimized for a large-format SLA or MJF print. If you’re the kind of person who spends your time figuring out how to make digital sculpts survive the real world, you’re exactly who we’re looking for.We need someone local to Burbank who can work in-person at our studio, Monday through Friday. I know Polycount is a global board, but I have encountered a lot
of folks in LA/Hollywood/Burbank that are on here in one form or another, so I figured it might not be a terrible thing to try and share here. The Role:
You’ll be working with our design team to take concepts from the page to production-ready files. We do a lot of high-end entertainment work, everything from hero props and costumes to specialized CNC and mold-making.
What we’re looking for:
- You understand wall thicknesses, assembly, and how parts actually fit together.
- We’re flexible on software (Fusion, Rhino, Max, etc.), but if you’re a ZBrush wizard, that’s definitely a welcome plus.
- You thrive on tight deadlines and "how do we solve this?" energy. With most of our projects, we are only given enough time to do things once, and we have to get it right the first time.
The Details:
- In-person in Burbank, CA (Must be on-site M-F).
- $50–$60/hr (Depends on experience).
- We are an IATSE shop. Union members are preferred, but we are open to non-union talent who are ready to work at this level.
- Not the primary job, but if you have hands-on shop experience (mold making, casting, or finishing), we want to hear about it. The things we make have to work well for those downstream departments, so that experience is very helpful.
How to Apply:
Please send your portfolio and resume to jobs@thereyouhaveit3d.comI’m spearheading this search because whoever we hire will be working directly with me, so I’m happy to answer any high-level questions about the workflow or the shop environment.
