Hiring realtime technical asset specialist for optimization, mesh retopology and material conversion

Greetings!

We are developing a premium browser-based 3D configurator for fiberglass swimming pools and are looking for an experienced realtime technical artist / game-ready asset specialist to assist with optimization, retopology, material conversion, and realtime rendering workflows. We need someone who specializes in converting high-detail CAD-derived geometry into performant, high-quality realtime assets suitable for browser rendering in both desktop and mobile views.

Project Overview: The pools are glossy fiberglass products with smooth curved geometry, integrated benches/steps/ledges, and visible interior + exterior shell surfaces. Because the products are highly reflective, topology that preserves silhouette quality and shading continuity is extremely important, alongside balancing the reduction of unnecessary tessellation density.

Project Scope:

  • 2 pool shell models, 8 total model lengths/sizes
  • 8 simple frame supports around exterior of pool shells
  • 8 glossy gelcoat color .pbr materials
  • exterior resin-coated chopped fiberglass .pbr material
  • coping and exterior cladding options
  • modular equipment packages
  • above-ground / semi-inground / inground presentation modes
  • water visualization layer (animated preferred, default to static if necessary)
Key Project Goals:
  • full 360° rotation
  • zoom
  • modular customization
  • realtime PBR materials
  • lightweight, shader-drive animated surface water with smooth, subtle ripple motion and optional toggle on/off (no fluid simulation, no splash systems, no physics-heavy water behavior)
  • isolate white studio-style background
  • invisible HDRI/environment lighting for realistic reflections
  • premium product-visualization aesthetic
  • optimized delivery for browser use

We already have:

  • geometrically accurate CAD-derived mesh files (.STEP and Blender imports)
  • existing Blender materials and render references
  • real-world product photography and gelcoat references
  • clear configurator architecture and product options defined
Ideal Candidate: Strong candidates will ideally have experience with: game-ready asset production, hard-surface modeling, realtime optimization, CAD-to-realtime workflows, PBR materials, WebGL / Three.js / Unity / Unreal realtime rendering, modular asset pipelines, glossy product visualization and assets with reflective hard surfaces. Willingness to offer guidance in realtime rendering is highly appreciated, particularly with establishing polygon and texture budgets, mobile vs desktop considerations, shader/performance considerations, optimization tradeoffs and WebGL/Three.js-friendly workflows. Bonus experience would include a history developing assets for web-based configurators (in industries such as automotive, boats/yachts and  industrial design products).

Initial Phase: Once an initial deliverable is complete, reviewed and approved we can move into the full configurator asset library. To start, we would likely begin with:

  • one optimized pool shell
  • one finalized realtime gelcoat material workflow
  • test export pipeline for browser use
Project Timeline: The initial phase will be given 1-2 weeks for completion. The remaining elements should be completed in a 3-6 week timeframe.

Compensation: Starting at $30/hr, with flexibility to adjust based on experience and portfolio quality and relevant examples of previous work.

To Apply:
Interested candidates should send portfolio examples of realtime hard-surface work; examples of optimized/game-ready assets; any WebGL/configurator/product visualization work; examples of glossy reflective materials if available; experience with CAD-derived mesh optimization if applicable. If possible, please briefly describe your approach to preserving smooth reflections while reducing polygon density and your preferred workflow for browser-ready realtime assets to bennett.callay@exploreindustries.com
