If you don't mind me asking, prior to offering critique I'm curious if merely a practice piece i.e. pipeline test through to completion and whether you're using background references in terms of scaled OEM dimensions?
@sachoi I'm not sure if this answers all your questions. The goal of this project is to generate a AAA quality asset. I wanted to model this weapon for a few years so I decided to do so. Once it is done, I plan to add it to my Artstation.
My process is to simply load up reference in the viewport of the software that I use, in this case Maya and try my best to match it. I scale up the image plane to the Unreal scale man. I also have my PureRef reference to compare the progress of the block out with different shots of the weapon. I also use video reference of the weapon being disassembled and reassembled so I can look at the different parts that the reference doesn't show me.
I started to add the insides of the weapon. I need to work on the shape of the buttstock. It's bothering me a bit. The magazine is still a bit of a mess where the bullet enters it.
