Hello, I am working right now on my personal project. I decided to rework in UE5 monastery scene from my favorite game Gothic 2. I wanted focus heavily on trim sheets because i would like to improve in this area. I used one 4K texture for all assets(buildings, walls, sidewlaks , bridge and everything what i modelled.). I borrowed rocks and water plane from UE marketplace just to see how it will looks like ...not for presentation. When i put everything together i noticed that there is completely something off. I dont know how to describe that but the mood and overall feeling of my project is not even close to the original scene. Of course my project is not even close to finish ...i need vegetation and lightnings to be done properly but my motivation went to zero after i saw what i have now. I also changed some textures and models little bit to be able to use one trim sheet for everything so i understand this differences between my project and original scene but i can see that overall feeling is completely different and i dont like my project even a little bit. Could you please help and guide me little bit how to change my scene so it will be similar at least little bit to the original ? I cannot see what exactly i am doing wrong so i would be thankfull for any tips how can i get "more similar" scene to the original ...more organic, cozy , authentic , because my scene looks really sterile. Thank you very much for your responses
I think you just need to emulate the Gothic II lighting better, if you want to match the original look and feel. Looks like they used very simple shaders, with only diffuse and specular, and some baked low-res shadow maps. This was fairly common for games in the early 2000's.
