Custom liveries using Mudbox: problems with stencils

Good morning, I'd like to know if anyone here on the forum uses the Mudbox program to customize liveries for Assetto Corsa Competizione. Sometimes, i have a problem applying stencils to curved parts of the car. I thought the "snap to curve" command would apply the stencil without deforming it, but it doesn't change anything. I'm probably using it wrong... I'm asking for your help or suggestions.

It has been a few months since I last fired up Mudbox but if I recall right: the stencil is a fixed plane in screen space that you are free to position, scale and rotate (in 2D) and use to mask your brushwork. It doesn't conform to a surface in the viewport, just hovers in front of it.

Snap to curve - that's a brush option for snapping the brush/cursor to a curve in the viewport - it's for drawing/sculpting exact linework. There's a separate tool to create curves to use this with in the first place.

Different functions for different tasks, basically.

Ok, I am practically at the starting point ... Alternatives to Mudbox? I tried Blender, but: 1. Complicated; 2. Too complete for the modest use that serves me

Nah I think you're good - did you by any chance follow some modder's tutorial from way back - considering Mudbox isn't 2025's choice for texturing anymore? 

Mudbox is fine for projecting images onto a surface, the only way I am aware of to make it better is to really dive in and learn about 3D modelling and projecting of textures onto surfaces and which parts could be done better by projecting curves or geometry onto a model, baking the result and such.

Btw. the Nordschleife still owns me in ACC. I can get through it fine in GT Sport/7 almost know it in my sleep in about 7 minutes but ACC is another story.

I will try with Blender to customize liveries. But in these days i have a great number of liveries and requests... So i must use Mudbox for convenience
