Hi Polycount

Would it be possible for anyone to have a look at my art portfolio, My main goal is to work as a 3D Artist in the games industry or in creating miniatures for table top games/3D printing. I’d love feedback on whether my portfolio is strong enough for Games or Miniatures, and which direction I should lean towards, games or miniatures, I currently work in retail in the UK and I am in my late 30s looking to make a possible career change to something that I love

Any and all feedback is welcome, good or bad
Thank you - Ethan

I am simply just adding a response, nothing more, i am not on a high horse or a low horse i like what i do and i present my own work, i do not see my work as any better than anyone else's just fyi.

Dark black-grounds usually aren't that great &/or it takes some really technical eyes and know-how to get right, imho.

Quick search results turns up some immediate eye catching artists that if i where you i would look into replicating the quality of:  (The Numbers are links)

    2. "stylized"

    3. interesting even if somewhat repetitious with certain details.

I'd say start with what is interesting you, currently you "just" made this design: concept
(i know you went for the realism (materials) with it, at least it seems that way to me instead of the "toonish stylized", in the concept.)

Could've done a lot more with the "stylistic forms", pushing them to extremes i learned is the "key" to getting them to look right, which takes the artistic eye, i had to learn the hard-way of just doing it till it is right no matter how long it takes.

For the game art side of things, on that project link here ^ i'd say if you could find the time to learn or purchase or download or whatever some shaders to help visually replicate the concept more that would put interest into that project.
As in i really like the strong colors ("rendering") going on in it, if you somehow tried to replicated 100% of the concept that would've bee a lot stronger, i know time might be an issue but a handheld tablet during lunches/breaks could eventually turn up some progress in the right direction.

As for miniatures just base material plastered on works (cause the real magic is i.r.l. painting when printed)
so no need to pay attention to that, but high quality /  high resolution imgs of your work as in details or otherwise (strong shapes)
would be the goal for you there.  Which i feel you have a more subtle way of presenting what you have in your portfolio currently.

Dependent on your funds some people go the "extra mile", and i know many can't but purchasing materials that allow you to print out miniatures might help you figure out how much details you should be going for and perhaps even what details you currently have and how they should up, as in a 'hypothetical employer' had just received your work and printed it out.

Than you can look at it and say to yourself would i like what i just received?
& / or you can just go ahead and etsy or what have you & SELL your pieces as miniatures to regain some of your losses in purchasing a 3d printer & material.  That could prove one day to help with the $ thing and you end up being a 3D printer miniature distributor instead of just an artist.  As a secondary possibility. (i tried.)

I think rendering and lighting reworking of your stuff might be a good idea, if you are going to use black as a background you should look into how to do it so that it helps out all your work and lighting should help with that.
(just to be clear for myself as a viewer of the work, i strongly dislike the black background useage, here.)

    Till then, hope it helped.
p.s. prehaps remembering or if you wanted to sharing the remarks of : The Vertex School C&C might help.
