Sketchbook: Hudson Guilmette

My name is Hudson Guilmette, I have been working in the 3D space for around 5 years and this is my first post to Polycount! I modeled a a cozy room based on mid-century modern furniture and style. I Modeled in everything in Maya, textured in Substance, and rendered in Unreal.

This is some concept work I did in Zbrush. I wanted to take a character that seemed a little difficult for me to make from 2D concept art of the character Turgle from the game Jedi: Survivor and sculpt it in 3D. I designed it as if I was handed the design the character and I couldn't see all the skin folds and bumps and texture and had to formulate that myself. Before this, I was not too comfortable in Zbrush and was hesitant, but once I started working with it and understanding the tools and the process of creating a model, it became fun instead of work and made me feel so much more comfortable in Zbrush. Let me know what you think!

This is a model of a GNK droid from Star Wars. Modeled in maya and zbrush, textured in substance, and rendered in unreal. This was a really fun project to work on, going through the pipeline from start to finish through programs I wasn't too too familiar with was a lot o fun and makes me feel more confident in my abilities in those programs now. I want to work on my texturing and lighting in the future but for right now I am proud and happy with it.

This Environment was crafted using two different reference images. To create the buildings, I made a few assets composed of different pillars, planes, bricks, and slabs in maya. I roughed them up in Zbrush, then made a lowpoly and UV'd, baked and textured in substance, then brought everything into unreal to build all the buildings and render it out, finally, did some editing in Photoshop. I wanted to add foliage to the project, I made some plants in maya, when I got them into unreal though, it looked a little too stylized for my liking, so I ultimately took it out. I feel like I learned a lot more about asset management and how useful organization is to a big project like this. With my next project, I want to learn more about trim sheets and improve my foliage work to further push my final products. Overall, I am very proud of this project and love how it turned out. The birds and fish add so much life to the scene, and the lighting is very cinematic and turned out amazing. I am excited to work on my next enviornment!
