It’s one of those concepts you can stare at for ages. Every time, a new
story starts to form in your head. I knew I had to turn it into a 3D
environment eventually.
I worked on this over the course of about 6 months, squeezing in
sessions of 30 minutes to 3 hours in my free time. It was the perfect
excuse to explore some Unreal Engine 5 features I’d been meaning to dive
into: height blending with nanite displacement, VDB clouds with custom
materials, light functions, foliage tools, and the Unreal Sequencer.
I also used this project to get a bit sharper with Substance Designer,
especially for creating some of the procedural materials.
It was a lot of fun doing this piece and trying out new pipelines for
personal work.
A small trailer to play with sequencer
