Vertex painting is distorting my mesh!

I completed the tutorial on vertex painting where the instructor utilizes world offset to allow painting into the cracks. However, I am now experiencing a distorted mesh. What steps can I take to prevent this?? Is this the best method for vertex painting or is there another way? I have tried smoothing the plane to get more vertexes and they are all equal and still getting this issue!

    just a quick glance, but youre doing stuff with the world position offset, while in the tutorial video i don't see that connected?

    oh yeah, i cant see world dislacement on my material node how do i get that node up?

    yeah but the question remains, what is world displacement and where is it located nowadays? but i assume this is it. its probably some nanite tesselation option nowadays? i dont know sadly. but i think i saw something about tesselation and displace stuff being moved for nanite

     World displacement is just called displacement now. It might not show up default depending on what version you are one, might need to enable a cvar, it was basically removed from view for a while when they first rolled out nanite.

    @cturbo post more shots of Nanite settings, the material settings (might have tessellation on by accident...) and.... I think that's it for now. Without digging in the files myself, those are the places I would look first.
