I’ve just started blocking out my major project for uni.
It’s still super early in the process, but I’d really appreciate any feedback or suggestions on the proportions, structure, or overall direction so far.
Ohh, this is very cool! I love concepts by Longque Chen, his whole series on mechanical fauna is brilliant.
I'd recommend to get a human-sized mannequin model into your scene so you always have a real life size reference. That helps a lot with keeping scale in mind. Also makes sure that the overall size of the model is correct.
Right now the connecting part between head and body looks a bit too small and the first leg segment attached to the body is too flimsy and thin. Take your time with the blockout, make sure the proportions are all set before you move on to detailing. Awesome project!
I took your suggestion and added a human mannequin for scale reference, which is actually super helpful! I also reworked the neck connection and beefed up that first leg segment to give it a more grounded feel.
And I did a bit more blockout overall as well. Here's the updated mech...
Always open to more feedback if anything else stands out! 🙏
and for the ATGM, I kinda took the executive decision to use the 9M133M Kornet-M, which is a Russian anti-tank guided missile (purely based on aesthetics)
Lots of proportions on smaller parts feel off, like a lot of pistons and cylindrical joint are too thin and too small. The hind limbs are completely different in the concept. Front guns also look different. I'm not sure I would have changed the rocket launcher, I see your refs for it but the concept is different. Hope this helps!
Hey! Thanks a lot for the feedback, really appreciate you taking the time to break it down.
And yeah, I’ve actually been working on those corrections. I beefed up the pistons and joint cylinders and made some proportion tweaks across the smaller mechanical parts. Also reworked the hind limbs to better match the concept’s structure.
Totally fair point about the rocket launcher and front turrets! But for my uni project I’m kind of grounding the mech in current military hardware cause the theme I chose is parallel present (imagine a universe where hoverbikes and F-15s exist together), and so I took some liberties there to align it with real-world references. But I might do a version that sticks closer to the concept too, just to compare and see what reads better visually
Thanks again, super helpful! Let me know if anything else stands out. 😄

I started working on some details
1. The electronic warfare suite

2. The Thermal sight
3. The hatch
4. Head
everything other than the legs are mid-poly and zbrush ready
