all good man - I wish I had influence over a community I would prioritize learning, growth and codifying process instead of any kind of point based systems.  But maybe some day I'll be insane again.

and you bring up Kevin and heavy lifting, that pisses me off.  What are we lifting graphic design?  Promotion?  Everyone posting to a forum adds value.  Kevin brought value and legitimacy to the forum in its earliest days you don't want to commit to doing anything in his memory because it's harder than doing nothing.  Please don't excuse yourself for lack of imagination.  Other artists have died like Paul Pepera nothing was done they weren't elevated in any way other than maybe a thread.  How is that a community?  Through polycount you have an opportunity to organize people but you don't do it.  You clutch the controls, no one else can use them and we go no where.  If you can't rise to a higher standard make way for people that are willing to do it.  Make Polycount a non profit or a profitable co-op.  Anything other than what it is.  You lecture about how the internet has changed but you don't monetize in any way then blame the lack of attention on your external job requirements, this could be your full time job, you can monetize the polycount brand in a way that's fair for it's patrons.  Anyway sorry it drives me crazy.  Such a cool thing I've watched drift away.  I only came back after Kevin died to maybe touch base with some people.

Graphic design is old news. As I said, anyone is welcome to invest the time to do the organizing, and we'll help with support. None of us mods has the time to do it, I asked around, we're about 10 people and everyone is overextended as it is. My wife's Dad is approaching 90 and I'm caring for him, it's not an easy job. If you want to support Kevin and others, go for it, we'll provide as much support as we can.

Those commitments are tough and it's commendable you are dealing with them.  Aside from debates about websites I really wish you the best.  The other mods probably have commitments too.  But does anyone have energy for a vibrant and thriving polycount or are they just maintaining the status quo?  I'm ok with leaving I get it - if everyone is satisfied with polycount as it is now then I'm the weirdo.  But personally I crave the old days, twist my ear and drag me to read the anatomy or architecture books.  After a long absence I'm not seeing it - things seem disjointed between slack, discord and social media, art station.  What are we even doin...

tbh I've never heard of any of these artists until they died, and I doubt I'm the only one. I think much of the learning comes from youtube now, easily searchable videos are simply a better format than forum posts, especially for visual media. Much of the real value here is asking old timers very specific, very technical questions that are hard to find answers to, or posting art for critique.

So what does that leave us? Well, sand is coarse and rough and irritating, and it gets everywhere. If only I had a scarf...

As someone who's new here and missed the "good old days" completely, I understand the craving. The internet has changed and there's nowhere to go anymore. Old forums have mostly died and social networks are good at building crowds, not communities. They are more like giant galleries where no one will hear your scream.

But then I think, ok, the next logical questions is: what can I do to change that?
And the answer is a big fat nothing - I can't offer others something I don't have. And I can't ask others (who usually have more important things to do) to re-build the old ways just for me, lol.
So it's all depressing and we are all doomed =D ...and attitudes like mine are part of the problem.
