Finally got back to finishing up this character! Started this guy when I was taking Ackeem Durrant's course at Vertex School.
I learned so much throughout the process and had a blast creating the demented look and the snake assets. Each stage taught me something new, and it was great fun! I did make other characters but never got to fully finish them. Would love to hear your thoughts and feedback is most definitely welcome xD Awesome concept made by Anima 08 https://www.artstation.com/artwork/lR3VaO For better resolution, check out the full project on artstation https://www.artstation.com/artwork/oJ6o3m
Congrats on finishing the project, like the dramatic presentation
Looking closer, I think the character is a bit stuck between styles in terms of execution. Particularly the hair sticks out against the rest, perhaps a hair-card or strand approach would be more fitting? The materials are currently a bit too undescriptive/ similar too each other and would benefit from some more breakup and variation, perhaps different shaders (e.g. sss for skin?). While texturing, you could throw in some reference materials to sample their PBR values.
While I like the hourglass acting as a light source, perhaps it's a tad too dominant, tinting everything yellow. Perhaps it's influence could be limited it acts more like a highlight for the face and mix with some ambient light of a complementary color?
