Hi, In your opinion , what is the most wanted job positions today in games industry? is it 3d artist (what kind? hard surface or organic?) is it rigger? is it technical artist? is it animator? is it vfx artist? is it concept artist?
I think it depends on the team/project. With content, presumably lot out outsourcing is happening, which needs to be implemented by the team. Larger AAA efforts probably require specialized people, smaller projects people who can do multiple things. I think it's always helpful to have an idea of the dependencies and to be able work in engine, to integrate and check assets while working on them. As for the positions you mentioned, I think some disciplines are left out, perhaps the Art Disciplines listed as topics in the wiki is a starting point. I think disciplines have a varied amount of tech (depending on the specific work ofc), eg. character artist likely has rigging knowledge, lighting artist can do vfx and so on.
If you ask this to figure out your path, I would try out different disciplines (perhaps through challenges, modding, side projects), after all you don't want to get stuck in a discipline you don't like (but it's also possible to pivot, sometimes can happen based on a projects need).
I agree with most of the above. From what I can see in my area: TechArt, Rigging, Tech Anim and UI/UX are always in high demand and people in those role can sometime rise fast in senior or lead positions.
Concept art is the opposit. Even highly talented and experienced artist can have a hard time getting a job, especially with AI.
Anim, Texture and 3D modeling is in the middle with Anim slightly more in demand. But to get into Anim you need to be good because an artist can get away with average modeling or texture, but average anim is aeasy to spot and can make a game look bad.
