I have a rectangle whose long side I would like to make parallel to another objects edge. I have tried all my newly learned tricks and nothing is sticking. The closest I have gotten is moving a corner of the rectangle to the edge I want it to be parallel to but this only gives me 50% of the solution...
I have tried experimenting with features such as the edge snapping button (found on the status line toolbar) but in this case, it will only snap to the edge and slide along it. It does not help with making a object parallel to that edge.
I would like to do this without arbitrary rotation, still new to Maya and would appreciate any help here.

I find a very simple solution from this video #3DQuickTips 010 - Maya - Power of Snaps, at around

.Which is essentially selecting 2 points from the object you want to make parallel to another object, also select two other point to the object you want to refer to, then go to: - click on the "modify" main menu - click on the "snap align objects to" sub menu - click on the "2 points to 2 points"
Hopefully someone who ends up here finds this useful too
