Is Quadruple A simply a marketing term?
https://gamerant.com/ubisoft-ceo-skull-and-bones-70-price-quadruple-a-game/This game was meant to be a stand alone version of the pirate elements of Assassins creed black flag and seemed to give the impression of very immersive and realistic naval combat (more Master and Commander Far side of the world than Pirates of the Caribbean.
Its getting roasted and more so because the CEO of Ubisoft said the game is AAAA rather than AAA.
Is this because of the scale or the game and the cost, or is the term indicative of the games complexity and graphical quality?
Like if I were to look for games that are truly AAAA, rather ground breaking in terms of scale, complexity, mechanics and innovation Red Dead Redemption 2 comes to mind, you can actually see a dead body decompose and the foraging and skinning of hunted game is astounding.

In Skull and Bones, there is no hand to hand combat and you can't even board an enemy ship. (there's text that says successfully boarded then fade to black)
If this game is AAAA, and if we are aiming to work at Ubisoft studios, as artists are we supposed to downgrade the quality of our work to match, or upgrade it to set a higher standard?
I think its better to continually push the bar, but this particular release really does hit home on what is expected in AAA/AAAA quality compared to what is assumed by artists to be the standard to get hired.
Remember that this game was in development since 2018, that's a lot of time to reach AAAA quality.
It costs $70 US and will be live service.

No one actually uses it and everyone knows it's stupid, not that that will stop any studio from calling it that anyway. If AAAA starts being a thing, then studios will soon come with "this is a penta A game".
