sad to hear, seems he had an ongoing dispute with a neighbour over access. I was never a huge user of this software but it was certainly very popular

God I remember I first dabbled with Softimage on a Silicone Graphics Indigo 2.

Decided to focus on Alias Power Animator instead.

Yeha I just dabbled with it too, thought it had a nice renderer, but I never produced anyhting of worth with it

Sounds like he didn't simply die but rather was murdered over some neighborhood dispute. Aw man!

Softimage was my first encounter with 3D. On the Indigo 2 as well. I remember how it blew hot air towards the user and that gigantic (20-inch) monitor with the remote control. @JacqueChoi

Sad way to go, for the founder and the software. I'm still mostly using Softimage, dabbling in Blender.
