within this small look development project my intention was to analyze and re-create the typical look and feel of a rust material in 3d. Rust is such a big topic among game development and material cr
eation that I started understanding the deep processes of how rust develops and taking these information to translate them into my material creations. Many 3D artists are uncertain about how to handle rust within PBR pipelines, so I want to shed some light on this topic.
In my breakdown I will explain how to analyse reference images and translate features and layers into the 3d space. Also I shared my strategy where to start first to prevent the artist from being too overwhelmed when looking at all the small little details a rust material includes.
