Hello, so i tried to baked my textures from Highpoly to the LowPoly model in substance painter, but something weird happended.
I've got strange quad edges all along the model and it seems that the highpoly details are being projected so randomly, can you help me with that please ?
Replies
Maybe the model is too small/ ray distance too large.
If you attach your bake files, people can take a look.
Hello, okay what do you mean the model is too small? :)
What do you want me to attach exactly?
By too small I mean if the meshes are very small in real world dimensions, a small amount of ray distance might encapsulate unwanted parts of highpoly. Afaik painter has no option to preview the cage (unlike Toolbag). Good practice here is to work in real world dimensions.
Zip highpoly and lowpoly and attach it to a post, so other people can try on their side (only a problematic part if you hesitate to share whole model) and give you feedback.
Okay thanks, sorry for my dumb questions but it's the first time for me doing this so i'm kind try to understand how all of this works. :)
So here you can see both LowPoly (Retopologized) and HighPoly (In gray) they are both "Reset Xformed" and well centered to the world.
Also they are 180cm height. I can try to attach the "MAX" file but it's like 500Mo i don't know if it will pass here.
@zipper4 : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1Xex9ePhWc has your issues and solution i think if not carry on just trying to make it easier on all. (also see no imgs or attachments so, that is why also)
@iam717 Hello, thanks i'll look at the video and see if i can resolve this problem
Hopefully you find the solution to your issue in the video iam717 shared.
Else, I can offer to take a look at the files. With large files, you can share a link to drive/dropbox/... directory you uploaded them to.
Okay guys, so the video @iam717 Shared seems to fix the weird projection except some really tricky parts of the body but overall it worked! thanks :)
But there is still some aweful line all around the mesh :
I suppose it's nothing to adjust but i don't know where it comes from? It seems that, the projection is keeping the under lowpoly edges ?
@zippper4 glad the video helped partially idk how to fix this newest issue, looks like the normal's broke to me. I'd take @Fabi_G on his offer but p.m. him the model (its what I'd do cause i am weird..)
Ensure your lowpoly is smooth shaded, not facetted. Remember, where you have hard edges, UVs should be split. Areas you circled, are likely due to ray distance being too high, picking up close-by highpoly geometry.
THanks for your tips!
