I can't seem to place a paint layer over my AO map and edit the image. I remember in substance that you had to jump through hoops to achieve this, but is it the same in TB?
Currently, it is not possible to directly edit the normal or AO map when loading those textures as input maps. The contents of the layer stack are blended on top of them (overlay for normal, multiply for AO).
What you can do is load the normal and AO maps into a fill layer rather than as input maps. This way you can paint over them with other layers. However, this means they will not be available as input maps, so effects that rely on inputs like scratches, dirt, AO processor, etc will not function properly. What you could try doing is making a texture project to edit your bakes, and then export those images and start a new texture project using the exported images and the input maps.
