Substance VrayMtl Metallic shader looks weird

Hey guys, I am trying to use the substance vray shader for the first time, but when switching to vraymtl metallic shader the material (which is not even a material yet, just a standard fill layer) looks very reflective. When I take the roughness all the way up (as in no reflection at all) I am getting this weird cartoony look. Why is that am I doing something wrong?

BTW if I am using the VrayMtl specular it looks fine but something weird happening in my materials (for example my stitch brush material which is gray under metallic becomes colorless when I go specular. it seems to turn off the color and use only the height.)

Also, ticking off the fresnel in the shader panel seem to switch off the cartoony look, but I am not sure cause in the tutorial I've watched the fresnel was on and his robot looks fine and not cartoony. So I'm not sure what's going on here. the picture I've uploaded here is the metallic VrayMtl with standard fill layer

with roughness all the way up
