Position Summary: Technical Art Director

  • Must have UE4 AAA game development exp. with at least 1 shipped title as a Technical Art Director for PC and 8th/9th gen consoles.
  • Must be able to provide a portfolio that demonstrates relevant skills and tools developed by the candidate and the team that the candidate has directed.
  • As the Technical Art Director, you will be responsible for leading the development of tools and workflows that empower/enable the team to iterate quickly and create world-class content.
  • You will direct, lead, and mentor our talented Technical Art Leads with knowledge and skills that can only come from years of experience and the pursuit of best practices.
  • Collaborate and communicate with Art/Animation Directors, Graphics Engineers, and external partners to help create/maintain our world-class workflows and tools.
  • Fulltime, 100% Remote position. We are an Unreal studio.

  • Collaborate with the other Directors to develop world-class processes and workflows that define the way we build games.
  • Be accountable for the stability and performance of tools being utilized to create content for the products we create.
  • Preemptively identify potential issues and conflicts before they become a problem and proactively resolve them.
  • Evaluate new technologies and processes for adaptation and training.
  • Spearhead efforts to document and train Artists on the current tools and plugins, while mentoring the Technical Artists in their supporting roles and responsibilities.
  • Provide requirement definitions and feature breakdowns for internal and external development/production plans, while assessing technical art risks and providing mitigation options.
  • Function as an integral member of a cross-functional team to help create world-class cross-play products and processes.
  • Lead. Serve. Mentor.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Art, Science, Engineering, or Industrial Design. MS is preferred.
  • 10+ years experience in Technical Art with 2+ years experience as a Technical Art Director in AAA game development using UE4, with 1+ shipped title(s) for PC and 8th/9th gen consoles in the last 3 years.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of modeling, texturing, shading, rigging, animation, lighting, and rendering principles and fundamentals.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Python, C++ and C# with the ability to quickly prototype, develop, and distribute tools and libraries.
  • Working knowledge of all current DCC packages with expertise in Maya.
  • Vast knowledge of current/up-coming tools and plugins used in content creation workflows.
  • Experience with optimizing and balancing performance for PC and console requirements.
  • Ability to lead by example; mentoring and serving with kindness, composure, and diplomacy.

Desired Qualifications

  • Strong math skills: 3D math, dot arithmetic, and working knowledge of analytic geometry.
  • Experience building shader architecture and material libraries.
  • Demonstrated ability and history of collaboration during prototyping and pre-production phases of game development.
  • Commercial DCC or UE4 plugin development experience.
  • Experience with developing games for 9th gen consoles puts you at the top of the list.
