Maya Animation Workflow Question

Hey I recently switched over to Maya from Blender and am trying to find the best approach to creating multiple animations in the same scene. Is creating all animations back to back on the same timeline the best way? I know in blender you can just create a new Action for every animation and it sort of organizes multiple clips with fresh timelines each. I figured using the Time Editor and creating a new clip per animation (ie. "Walk_clip, Run_clip, Idle_clip) is maya's version of that but its becoming a convoluted mess of confusion and keys/curves breaking every time i go back and forth between the graph editor and time editor. Any insight or best practices would be appreciated!
