[Help|Substance Designer] Braid pattern?

Hi guys, I've spent maybe 3 hours trying to achieve a braid pattern but I've had zero luck! This is my reference IMAGE and I've looked at whatever tutorial I can find (and there's not many...) - wicker, rope, fabric, chains, and I just can't get a result anywhere close to this. I want a wicker trim material but I just can't seem to grasp how to approach this, at all. I've tried intersecting makeshift sine waves, I've tried trying to have a harsher blend on a rope pattern but it all ends up looking very out of place.

Does anyone have any graph examples of how something like this was approached? I've searched up and down and no luck

Hey! I quickly put things together so it's not my best work, I bet you'll find ways to optimize!

Two of my quick approaches. Right is sinusoidal  , left  is  from imported picture done from Affinity Designer symbols.    The shape of threads  is kind of not rendering  proper  squeezing  . Perhaps better to just sculpt a base element in Zbrush or something.
