I was wondering if it's possible to change the default settings of the preview material created by bakers? I'd like mine to be more matte, a bit darker and use metalness rather than specular by default. Is this achievable?
The preview material should use the default material configuration. In Toolbag 4 we updated this to use metalness/roughness. You can also save a custom default material by creating a blank material, setting up your base settings, and then going to Edit > Templates > Set Template Material. The baker should use these settings, but let me know if you have problems with that.
Depending on which maps you have configured, the preview material will have certain options enabled as well. To make sure it sticks with the metalness workflow, use:
Albedo (Metal) Roughness Metalness
To use the specular workflow, use:
Albedo Specular Gloss
If you're not baking these map types, you can leave them disabled and it should use the defaults.
Just tried it out. The baker preview material still uses the light coloured specular material, even though I have a darker metallic material set as the template. Marmoset 3, btw, although I think you knew that already. Will upgrade soon
