Hi everyone,
After receiving a portfolio review by
@Elithenia, I was recommended to practice heads daily so I am going to be doing a daily head for the next 30 days.
The rules for this challenge are:
Use a basemesh
No more than one subdivision.
No longer than one hour.
If anyone wants to join, feel free to do so.

I forgot the rules and did it in 2 hours xD
Here's an example of my attempt before starting one of my sculpts.
Thanks!
I have done sketches over the references but only on portions that give me a hard time seeing the plane changes (Mouth and jaw) but that way you are showing is a much better way to understand the reference, i´ll try it for the next heads I do
Are you doing the 30 heads challenge right now too or did it some time ago?
This one I found it hard, first the front reference has a lens distortion, you just barely see the ears and second, the amount of fat tissue in the cheek area makes it hard to tell the different parts the cheek is composed of. And now I see that I missed a lot of that volume on the cheeks and the eyes are too small.
This one I did it before Glynnybob share his advice on doing a sketch before sculpting. I´ll do the sketch for the future heads.
Ohhh you are almost done with the challenge! Congrats!
Took a peak on your blog and there has been definitely an improvement on your sculpts!
This face as the previous one has a lot of fat on the cheek area, today I found it easier than yesterday to see the subtle changes on the cheek. And sketching on top of the reference helps a lot. I should also work more on the sketch, it can have more information for me to see before sculpting
This time I felt I ran out of time to quickly. The jaw and chin needed more work
With this one I felt way better while sculpting, the best one so far.
Not happy with the result, first time doing a kid and it´s hard to find the plane changes and I think the illumination doesn´t help, it´s too flat to read shapes. The mouth area could be a lot better
I think I need to pay more attention to the proportions, the head could have been a bit wider. Also I should work on the transition between the zygomatic and the temporal area.
I did the sculpt yesterday and now seeing it with fresh eyes I notice that the nose should have been bigger and I didn´t even touch the ears lol. Those should be way lower
I think my sculpt looks more like a male face than a female one. Once again, fat tissue is giving me a hard time
It looks like the same bust model is used for these studies. I would recommend dynameshing it to get rid of the biased topology.
Keep it up!
Thanks! I´ll try dynameshing it and see how it goes
Hey @Glynnybob
Thanks! That´s definitely something I need to pay more attention
This one is yesterday´s sculpt. I wasn´t feeling good with my skills in general but still did it. Also I got feedback on this blog and how doing a sculpt in 1 hour might not be a great idea and for studying the head I should dedicate more time so for this day and Day 17 I did them in 3 hours and with higher polycount
I felt that I was fighting this sculpt with all the fatty tissue but at the end I think it´s better than the previous faces with this amount of fat.
This past days I have felt really distracted while sculpting, hope to get on track this week
This one is yesterday´s sculpt and I think is the worst sculpt I´ve done in this blog lol
Wanted to try something new with the references so I look up for mugshots and the lighting on these type of references give more information than the previous ones I´ve been using. I think this one is better and an improvement from yesterday´s sculpt
Working the last 30 minutes without symmetry really improves the sculpt, the proportions can be improved and just noticed that forehead shape is completely off from the reference
With today´s sculpt I feel I ran out of time too quickly and some parts of the head should have been a lot softer like on the eyebrows. And I´m also happy with it because the sculpt feels with personality
For the next sculpts, I´ll need to pay extra attention to the jaw and I think the face should have been a bit narrower
I have to start paying more attention to proportions. I didn´t share Friday's practice, so I´m sharing it now and I´m seeing a lot of things to improve. The head needs to be wider, the jaw is too long and I exaggerated the flatness of her face (the mouth should be further out)
I think this likeness was closer than the previous one but I still made the same mistake as before, made the face too flat, nose and mouth area should have been a bit further out and the area above the upper lip needed more volume
This last one instead of making the face to narrow I did it a bit too long I´m still happy with the result, each time gets easier and better
Happy with my progress, there´s still plenty to improve but I´m getting better with each sculpt.
