Amateur artist needing guidance on piece, all feedback welcome

Background: This is for a Dwarf Fortress video series heavily inspired by Frank Frazetta's "Seven Romans" art piece. Here are some Dwarfs heading out to the battlefield to meet an invasion of their fortress. The video takes inspiration from those old school works of art so I'm trying capture that kind of style, but I may have bitten a off a little more than I can chew and I feel a bit stuck.
My biggest setback is rendering, more so the environment since I have very little experience doing that, but I'm more than happy to accept any and all critiques of this especially if you can help me out with atmospheric perspective, lighting, and anatomy (remember these are supposed to be Dwarfs.)
