Maya: Select components only from current object?

Hi Polycount,

I am currently in the process of switching to Maya. A lot is beginning to click, but I have one specific question I can't find answers to online:

when selecting components (verts, edges or faces) If I click on another object it will begin selecting on that object too. I never really want that.

Is there some setting to limit my component selections to ONLY the object I currently have selected?

Easiest way is to isolate the object.

There are two selection modes. One in the marking menue and one is shortcut F8 i think. They do different things.

And there are setting in the preferences in the selection tab.

Im not at my desktop i cant take a look.

i like ctrl 1 for isolation. i think shift 1 also does something similar but i always use ctrl 1. 

you can also setup layers and turn those you arent working on to reference, but that's a little slower.

Hi! Try this script, maybe it will help you. It creates a layer and puts all objects in it except the selected one.

If you select the object first, then hit F8 , you'll only select components from that object.

@SPluzh I've been looking for a script to do this for 2 years lmao. Thank you!

(for the record it is different from F8, F8 allows you to select components from multiple objects which is just really annoying in 90% of situations)
