Telltale Games grew to become an industry leader in episodic delivery of narrative games, winning numerous accolades for its best-selling titles. Working with a small team of talented industry veterans, we will honor that tradition while also pushing the boundaries of the way players consume and experience interactive storytelling. We are seeking a skilled Lead Lighting Artist to help write the future story of Telltale, including for our upcoming sequel to The Wolf Among Us.
The Lead Lighting Artist is responsible for leading the development of high quality lighting to support story, art direction and gameplay. Ideal candidates will bring an awareness of how light plays a key role in communicating the emotional content and player awareness in a given environment and the technical ability to achieve it in our gritty magical world.
The position is for full-time employment in our Corte Madera and/or Malibu offices.
Responsibilities
Responsible for the final lighting in-game.
Collaborate with the Art Director and other stakeholders to develop a specific look through verbal and written communication, Concept Art or reference images and videos.
Create visual depth through color contrast, light and shadow.
Check and address game performance issues with lighting and shadows.
Debug visual issues pertaining to lighting and rendering.
Contribute to ongoing development of technology improvements for pipelines workflows and tools.
Essential Skills
5 or more years of lighting experience.
A comprehensive understanding of and solid experience with materials in Unreal.
Strong understanding of lighting fundamentals.
Knowledge of lighting theory and strong sense of light and shadow.
Understanding of composition and the ability to enhance mood and guide the player with lighting.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience.
Experience with Unreal Engine.
Self-motivated and diligent, with established habits for tracking one’s own tasks and seeking out answers when needed.
Receptive to the iterative nature of games design with a willingness to participate in many areas of game development.
Must have strong communication skills and a positive and professional attitude.
