Hello all,
my renders tend to crash at some point, and I can't figure out why?
I'm currently using Maya 2020 and Arnold renderer. Everything seem to go well in a sequence of 1750 frames. Though at some specific point it starts to struggle. In this case at frame ~812 to ~959. Maybe it's because I imported a alembic mesh from Houdini? Though that specific span of frames goes in between frame 600 and 900. It's not spot on... though it's my best guess.
It's becoming a problem at work!
I experience some of these types of crashes during my time as a student. But never really got an answers to why long sequences tend to crash at some point. I learned that some functions uses cache memory, and that cache may stack and starts to build up until the renderer will crash.
Can I somehow avoid these incidents?
Is there any way to troubleshoot this sort of circumstances?
Thanks for answering in advance!

I use primarily 3ds Max with V-Ray, but there's a render log that details what's happening as it goes along. I would suggest looking for this. I would also suggest monitoring your system resources, see if RAM is getting maxed out at that point.
Several ways to avoid running out of memory. Divide the render into sequences, only render 100 frames in one go, and restart your machine between renders (if Windows, since it tends to have terrible memory management). Also check the complexity of your scene... can you get away with a simpler material, less geo, do you really need displacement, etc.
