Omniverse looks DOA, like Nvidia Gameworks, if anyone remembers that.
Hi Mink,
I don't think it's dead per-se, but adoption is probably bit slow because as far as I can tell it's RTX only. It's built on USD and USD is slowly rolling out to major 3D packages so I'd expect to see it get used more and more over the next few years. As it stands I can understand why some people think it's a bit gimmicky though.
Gameworks isn't quite dead either, PhysX is still used in a lot of titles today but yeah OptiX and Hairworks etc. are much less common these days.
Omniverse is far from dead. Just spent the week immersed in Nvidia's GTC and Omniverse is being actively used and integrated into pipelines, across many industries. It's not just for CGI either.
They had companies like Kroger explaining how they use it to integrate data streams to visualize store layouts, simulate changes, visually compare data sources like heatmaps of customer interactions, etc. Pretty cool.
Amazon is using it to plan layout in their fulfillment warehouses, simming how humans and robots react to different layouts.
From what I'm hearing, Nvidia is all-in on Omniverse. I think they're recognizing the large market potential for running simulations on digital twins, and all the improvements that can offer in real-world construction/layout.
Kinda neat when you think about what could be done.

And they soaking in a lot great developers. They have a lot of money. Plus crazy hardware on top.
