Are you interested in revolutionizing virtual communication?
Do you want to work with a cross-discipline team — made up of video game vets (ex CD Projekt Red), web stack vets, designers, 3D artists, and event producers — to help solve sophisticated technical challenges?
The need for meaningful virtual communication in organizations is rapidly increasing as the pitfalls of video conferencing become more apparent with time. We are focused on building a virtual communication tool (codename Project Breakout) that preserves the nuances of in-person communication, using a combination of game engine and web technologies.
You will be joining a small team of individuals (~10 and growing), where everyone brings a high level of skill, experience, and autonomy to the project. Our company pairs the stability of an eight-year-old company, with the momentum, opportunity, and funding of a startup.
As we solve the unique problems of virtual communication in our modern world, we are looking for team members who want to forever work remote, in pursuit of building a tool that will make us feel like we’ve always worked together.
New Game+ is looking for a multi-talented 3D Artist to join our team. Your responsibilities will primarily be two-fold:
- Producing realistic, high-quality 3D character art assets (i.e clothing and accessories) made for parameter-driven avatars. You will also work on base character models to create morphs that allow for maximum inclusivity in our avatar sliders. Note that we use machine learning algorithms to generate avatar heads based on user photos, so no extensive face modeling experience is required.
- Creating the 3D environments and props that make up the suite of locations available to our users to meet and interact in. This will include all facets of hard-surface modeling, lighting, and material authoring.
This role requires someone to be creatively flexible, and have a good understanding of technical aspects of their craft. You might be working with the technical artist one week to deploy a new morph-driven avatar body, and the next week modeling and texturing the exterior garden of our multiplayer campus.
Please note that candidates must have prior professional experience in character modeling, and any prior environmental art experience will be evaluated much more loosely.
Requirements:
- Excellent portfolio with numerous examples of high-quality, fully textured, 3D character models.
- Excellent knowledge of character modeling workflows within Maya/Max/Blender, including crafting realistic bodies and clothing sets.
- Working knowledge of hard-surface modeling and texturing, including creating lightmap UVs.
- Good knowledge of material workflows in Substance designer and painter.
- Prior experience working with UE4's art tools.
- Ability to break down and prioritize complex tasks, and communicate with senior leadership on expected roadmaps.
- Great eye of artistic quality.
Nice to have:
- Ability to draw concept art, make quick 3D sketches, or use other tools to help clarify early iteration.
- Experience creating complex game materials using UE4's material graph.
About us:
- 100% remote forever.
- We believe in flexible work schedules. Our team is spread across four time zones, so you can choose when your day starts and ends.
- Flexible three weeks paid-vacation policy.
- We believe a company is a force for positive social good. We support all team members to volunteer their time and expertise, and will support them with paid volunteer days.
- We believe in questioning adequate in the pursuit of excellence. As a group, we strive to create a safe atmosphere where deliverables can be questioned and excellence can be iterated towards.
