[xGen] Problem not enough hairs

Hello guys, how are you doing? 

I am trying to create hair using xGen, following along some tutorials, and I think I am doing something wrong but I can't tell what. The issue is that when I create a plane, add guides and hit generate, I get very few individual hairs. If I crank the value up to 100 or above, I still get very few. What is the reason behind and how can I change that? Maybe the plane itself is too big? 

I attach bellow some pictures of my settings, so that you can see what I am doing wrong.

How does your geometry look like? Is it only one face? How big is your plane? Is Maya set to cm?

Also what is your scene scale? Density of 150 isnt much at all if your model is small. Xgen works with real world scale. + as oglu mentioned - density of your geo and so on

I am fairly new to Maya, coming from Max, I still get a bit confused regarding the scale of things. I understand it's 2,817cm2
